Brentjens and Van Houts disappointed after Beijing Olympics |
Beijing, 22nd of August 2008 - Bart Brentjens concluded his 4th Olympic games at a disappointing 37th place. Brentjens, who became the sport's first Olympic champion in 1996 during the Atlanta Games, and a bronze medal during the 2004 Athens Games, was highly motivated to peak once again. However, Brentjens crashed in a training weeks earlier. One week before the Olympics, it became clear this minor crash had produced a small fracture in his hand. This caused too much discomfort for Brentjens, and a crash during the race, among with a changed course, ruined his chances. Rudi van Houts was off to a good start in the race, but two crashes and a flat spoiled his chances of a top ten finish. The race was won by Julien Absalon, Peraud came in second and bronze was won by Nino Schurter.
